A FEW employees of The Newcastle Herald are considering a career change after they swapped their pens for oars on Saturday in what proved to be a master stroke.

The Herald entered a corporate team in the Maritime Museum Festival's dragonboat competition at Throsby Creek and took gold in the B-grade final.

The secret weapons in the final were gold swimming caps.

The caps either streamlined The Herald to victory or had the other teams laughing so hard they could not paddle as well.
